Moana Pasifika's Match Moved: A Heartfelt Shift to Pukekohe

Moana Pasifika’s Venue Twist: What Lies Ahead for Their Pacific Aspirations?

Moana Pasifika has announced a change in venue for their upcoming match against the Chiefs, moving from Nuku’alofa to Pukekohe due to logistical challenges. CEO Debbie Sorensen expressed the team’s disappointment, emphasizing their desire to compete in the Pacific, stating, “Our hearts are in the Pacific and that is where we want to be.” She acknowledged that despite the longing for a home game in Tonga, circumstances necessitated this relocation.

Chiefs’ CEO Simon Graafhuis shared in the sentiment, voicing excitement about playing in Tonga and supporting Moana Pasifika’s aspirations to host a match there in 2026. He noted that games in the Pacific Islands rank among the highlights for the Chiefs.

The match is now set to take place at Navigation Homes Stadium in Pukekohe on March 21 at 7:05 PM. Moana Pasifika is determined to “bring the Pacific to Pukekohe” and sees this game as the start of a series of home games, including a subsequent match against the Brumbies on April 19.

This season arrives with renewed hope for Moana Pasifika, who are striving to strengthen community ties and foster future engagements in the Pacific Islands. The leadership of Sorensen, alongside collaborations with teams like the Chiefs, underscores a dedication to amplifying Pacific culture in rugby. This positive outlook is encouraging for both the teams and their supporters.

Recent developments regarding Moana Pasifika’s lineup changes and the introduction of new players have also heightened excitement surrounding the team, reflecting a growing optimism as they work toward enhancing their performance in the forthcoming seasons. Despite ongoing challenges, the commitment to celebrate their heritage on and off the field remains strong.
