A weak trough of low pressure from the south is producing increased cloud and showers across the eastern and southern parts of Fiji. Occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected in several coastal and island areas through to midnight tomorrow, with similar conditions lingering into Sunday for those same regions.
The heaviest and most persistent activity is forecast for Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Natadradave‑Korovou, Sigatoka‑Coral Coast, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, Cakaudrove, southern Bua, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Elsewhere across the group conditions will be partly cloudy with afternoon or evening showers and isolated thunderstorms. Isolated thunderstorms with heavy falls are possible over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu; localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding in flood‑prone areas, so residents in low‑lying or riverine locations should remain alert.
Winds will be moderate to fresh from the southeast and gusty at times. Seas are expected to be rough, and small craft operators and those planning coastal activities should exercise caution. Rotuma is also under the influence of a trough with occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms, moderate to fresh southeasterly winds and moderate to rough seas.
The outlook for Sunday remains much the same for the eastern and southern islands, with occasional showers continuing over the areas already affected and partly cloudy skies with afternoon or evening showers elsewhere. Forecasters continue to highlight the possibility of isolated heavy falls over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu that could produce localised flash flooding in susceptible areas.
Local centre notes: Navua/Suva/Nausori and Natadradave/Korovou can expect occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms with temperatures around 23–30°C and similar conditions on Sunday. Yasawa/Mamanuca and Sigatoka/Coral Coast are likely to be partly cloudy with afternoon or evening showers and isolated thunderstorms, highs near 31°C, and generally fine apart from showers on Sunday. Nadi/Lautoka/Ba and Tavua/Rakiraki should see partly cloudy conditions with afternoon or evening showers (possible thunderstorms) and daytime highs to about 32°C. Labasa may reach about 33°C with similar afternoon or evening shower activity. Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups and Kadavu will have occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms with daytime highs near 30°C. Rotuma is forecast 24–31°C with occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms.
