Center Iosefo Masi is making his long-awaited return to the Fijian Drua after recovering from an injury sustained in the opening round of Super Rugby Pacific. His comeback is anticipated to significantly enhance the team’s performance as they gear up to face the ACT Brumbies in Canberra this Friday.
Joining Masi in the lineup is loose forward Vilive Miramira, part of a revised strategy from coach Glen Jackson. Jackson has decided to rotate his squad, reshaping both the back row and the midfield, resulting in a 6-2 split on the bench aimed at improving team performance dynamics.
In the front row, Haereiti Hetet partners with Mesake Doge and Zuriel Togiatama, while effective locking duo Mesake Vocevoce and Isoa Nasilasila stabilize the tight five. Meli Derenalagi slots in at blindside flanker, with the promising young talent Motikiai Murray, who made a notable impression off the bench against the Chiefs, earning a starting role as the number seven. Elia Canakaivata will fill the number eight position, maintaining co-captain Frank Lomani at halfback, who teams up with Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula at flyhalf.
On the wings, Ponipate Loganimasi and Selestino Ravutaumada are retained, while Tuidraki Samusamuvodre shifts to inside center to accommodate Masi’s return, and Vuate Karawalevu will step in as fullback.
The Drua’s encounter against the Brumbies is set for 8:35 pm on Friday and can be watched live on FBC Sports. Masi’s return, combined with Jackson’s strategic adjustments, injects a renewed sense of hope and enthusiasm into the team, reflecting a resilient mindset as they tackle a critical period in the rugby season. With key players returning, fans are excited to see how the Drua will perform in the upcoming matches, potentially setting them on an upward trajectory in the competition.
