The Lautoka City Council is currently in the process of finalizing an agreement for services related to its swimming pool project, as confirmed by council CEO Mohammed Anees Khan. The negotiations are expected to conclude next week, allowing the council to appoint a project manager who will lead the initiative over an estimated 11-month timeline.

Khan explained that the project will commence with a thorough inventory of required tasks to make the pool suitable for domestic use. However, he emphasized that the facility will also be designed to accommodate potential international competitions. This flexibility means that should there be a demand for such events, the facility can be upgraded to meet international standards, which includes the installation of timing devices, lane ropes, and launch pads.

The council is considering options for acquiring the necessary competition equipment, either through purchase or rental from the Fiji Sports Council in Suva or even facilities in Australia and New Zealand.

This development reflects Lautoka’s commitment to enhancing local sports facilities and promoting community engagement through a state-of-the-art swimming pool, which could also serve as a venue for larger events in the future. Overall, the project signifies progress towards better recreational amenities for the residents and visitors alike.
