The long-standing challenge of obtaining medicine outside hospital premises comes to an end for many patients in the Western Division, as the Ministry of Health and Medical Services unveils its new prefabricated pharmacy at Lautoka Hospital. This innovative facility aims to streamline patient care by providing a complete cycle of health services, allowing patients to receive their prescriptions without having to leave the hospital.
Chief pharmacist Ilisabeta Pesamino announced that the pharmacy would be fully operational from the morning of its launch. She expressed excitement about the new service, stating, “Tomorrow, we’ll roll out, we’ll be able to start dispensing prescriptions from here.” This development is particularly significant as it allows patients to complete their health care journey within the same facility where they consult with their doctors.
The newly established pharmacy will be staffed by a dedicated team consisting of a pharmacist and two assistants, who will work to ensure that medication stocks remain consistent and that patients receive quality service. This initiative has been welcomed by the community, with Lautoka Residents and Ratepayers Association President Narayan Reddy acknowledging the efforts of the Ministry of Health. Reddy highlighted the frustrations patients previously faced in accessing their medications and expressed gratitude for the establishment of this one-stop shop for health needs.
The launch of the prefabricated pharmacy is expected to significantly enhance patient satisfaction and overall healthcare efficiency in the region. It reflects a positive response to community concerns and demonstrates a commitment to improving healthcare access for all.
