The Judicial Services Commission (JSC) has convened for extensive discussions and has taken significant steps regarding the appointment of Barbara Malimali as Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). Following their meeting, the JSC resolved to invite Malimali, along with her counsel and the Solicitor General representing the State, as well as Valenitabua who acts on behalf of the Prime Minister. This gathering aims to seek their perspectives on the compliance with the Orders issued by the High Court.
Tomasi Bainivalu, Secretary of the JSC, stated that the Commission, in collaboration with the Acting Attorney-General, will provide independent recommendations to the President based on the findings of the judgment delivered by Justice Dane Tuiqereqere. The JSC acknowledges the judgment as binding and emphasizes the necessity of adhering to the outlined next steps.
In a bid to ensure progress, the Commission aims to conclude the matters pertaining to Malimali’s appointment by March 31, 2026. This timeline reflects the JSC’s commitment to resolving these issues efficiently, demonstrating a focused approach to upholding judicial resolutions and maintaining the integrity of public service appointments.
