In the recent round of the Suva Touch Rugby Association competition, the Insyde Out touch rugby team demonstrated their dominance by achieving victories across all categories held at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School. The Raiwaqa-based team celebrated convincing wins in the Mixed Open, Men’s Open, under-14-17, and Masters 30s divisions.
In the Mixed Open category, Insyde Out showcased their prowess by defeating the Bombers with a score of 9-2. They carried this momentum into the Men’s Open match, triumphing over 2 Fresh with a score of 7-4. Their youth squad proved just as capable, edging past Raiwaqa Flyers 5-3 in the under-14-17 category, while the Masters team clinched a narrow victory of 9-7 against Fiji Correction, completing a clean sweep for the day.
Team representative Nelson Cokanasiga reflected on the challenges faced during the matches but noted them as beneficial experiences. He expressed the team’s determination to aim for the titles in multiple categories this season, stating, “It was a good first-place game. Plenty of lessons taken out, but we got the win in all categories.”
Cokanasiga also shared insights into the team’s history and community focus, revealing that they have been active for nine years and plan to celebrate their tenth anniversary next year. He emphasized the importance of their training routine, which takes place every afternoon from Monday to Thursday.
Highlighting a significant aspect of their mission, he acknowledged the positive impact of touch rugby on local youth, stating, “Touch rugby helps keep our youths engaged and away from negative influences like drugs. It gives them something positive to focus on.”
This season, the Insyde Out team is motivated to surpass their previous quarter-final exit and aspire to win it all by leveraging their competitive experiences and focus on skill development. With continued support and a commitment to community engagement, their journey reflects promising prospects for both the team and the sport of touch rugby in Fiji.
