Hurricanes coach Clark Laidlaw has announced an exciting overhaul of the team’s roster for the upcoming season, bringing in nine new players. Brett Cameron has been signed, but he faces a tough recovery from an ACL injury. In the meantime, Riley Hohepa returns to the Hurricanes after a stint with the Crusaders. The team has also added two locks from the South Island: Will Tucker from the Highlanders and Zach Gallagher from the Crusaders.
Ere Enari joins the Hurricanes after three seasons with Moana Pasifika, alongside promising rookies Tjay Clarke, Kade Banks, Arese Poliko, Fehi Fineanganofo, and Lucas Cashmore.
With the departure of notable players, particularly All Blacks Jordie Barrett and TJ Perenara, Laidlaw is seeking new leadership within the squad. Barrett is expected to return after a season in Ireland, opening up opportunities for the talented Riley Higgins to step into a starting midfield role. Additionally, with Josh Moorby’s exit, Clarke and Banks can now compete for positions in the back three.
The Hurricanes’ 2024 roster includes a combination of established players and new talent, as the team looks to make a strong impression in the 2025 Super Rugby season.
This strategic infusion of new players not only bolsters the squad’s depth but also brings fresh energy and perspectives, setting a hopeful tone for the upcoming season. The team’s management appears committed to cultivating talent and fostering a competitive spirit, which could pave the way for a successful campaign ahead.
