The Fiji Cancer Society’s Community Palliative Care Program has received an encouraging boost with a notable donation of $65,625 from NewWorld IGA. This funding was generated during the company’s Pinktober Campaign, an initiative aimed at raising awareness about cancer and supporting related health efforts.
This program is dedicated to training community health workers in the Nadi medical area, equipping them with the skills necessary to provide high-quality care for patients with life-limiting conditions, including cancer and various non-communicable diseases. Atonio Takala, the Finance Chair of the Fiji Cancer Society, emphasized the critical importance of palliative care, which encompasses skills such as pain management, emotional support, and effective communication.
Takala indicated that the program has successfully completed two training phases within the central division and Nadroga/Navosa province, totaling 191 trained participants. He highlighted the profound need for compassionate care for patients in their final stages of life.
Over the last ten years, New World IGA has generously contributed over $360,000 to the Fiji Cancer Society, showcasing a long-standing commitment to fostering cancer awareness and supporting patient care initiatives.
This latest investment in training and support represents a significant commitment to improving the quality of life for cancer patients and their families. It nurtures an environment that encourages community outreach and education, demonstrating the meaningful impact that partnerships between organizations like NewWorld IGA and the Fiji Cancer Society can yield. These collaborative efforts are essential in reinforcing hope among patients and caregivers in the ongoing battle against cancer.
