Last weekend, My Suva Picnic Park buzzed with activity as members of the public came together to partake in the delayed Holi celebrations. Organized by the India Fiji Friendship Forum in collaboration with the Indian High Commission, the event offered free food and entertainment, showcasing the vibrant spirit of community.
Defence and Veteran Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua was the chief guest at the occasion. He spoke passionately about the significance of Holi, highlighting its role in breaking down barriers across different statuses, faiths, and generations. “As we light the diya, let us honor tradition and ignite compassion and understanding within ourselves,” he urged, calling for a renewed commitment to unity and generosity during the festival.
Indian High Commissioner Suneet Mehta commended the event’s organizers and reinforced the strong partnership between India and Fiji. This year’s celebration not only celebrated the joyous essence of Holi but also emphasized the importance of community spirit and interpersonal connections.
The sentiments expressed during this year’s festivities resonate with previous celebrations that focused on Holi as a time for renewal, forgiveness, and strengthening communal ties. Minister Charan Jeath Singh has noted how such events encourage participation from diverse groups, fostering a sense of belonging among all attendees.
Overall, the Holi celebrations serve as an inspiring reminder of the power of unity within diversity, promoting a hopeful message that communities can engage positively and work together towards a harmonious future.
