Weather Update
Attention all you Fijians and visitors! As of 10:45 AM on Saturday, February 15, 2025, the skies are throwing a no-holds-barred rain party, and everyone’s invited! Yes, a HEAVY RAIN ALERT is still in effect for the entire Fiji group, so grab your umbrellas, raincoats, and life jackets, just in case.
What’s shaking in the sky? Well, a rather sluggish trough of low pressure has decided to linger just north of us, pouring its cloudy heart out across most of Fiji with plenty of rain and the occasional thunderstorm. If you thought you could escape it, think again! There’s also another trough creeping in from the west later tonight, which means we’ll be in for a wet and wild ride well into early next week.
Here’s what we can expect by midnight tomorrow:
– **Vanua Levu, Lau, and Lomaiviti**: Prepare for a delightful mix of occasional rain and heavy downpours accompanied by the thrill of a few thunderstorms. If you love the sound of rain, you’re in for a treat!
– **Interior parts of Viti Levu (Sigatoka through Navua extending to Suva up to Tailevu North)**: Get ready for occasional showers that will sprout into rain, likely turning frequent in the afternoon and evening. Don’t forget your dancing shoes, because a few thunderstorms may join the melodic rain.
– **Elsewhere**: Expect to see some occasional rain along with isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms. If you’re in low-lying areas, you might want to keep an eye out for flash flooding—might as well get your snorkeling gear ready just in case!
Winds will be moderately northwesterly and may gust in areas where the rain gets particularly heavy. Think of it as mother nature’s way of reminding you not to stand too close to the edge!
**Outlook for Monday**: We’re stuck in a rainy rut with occasional rain and heavy downpours expected, particularly over the northern islands and across several areas. Those thunderstorms aren’t getting the hint to take a break, so keep your thunder buddies close.
– **For Navua/Suva/Nausori**: Don’t forget your rain gear because we’ll see those showers ramping up to rain as the day goes on, along with the sound of rolling thunder.
– **For Nadi/Lautoka/Ba**: A continuous drizzle will practice its art of isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms.
– **For Sigatoka/Coral Coast**: Similar rain antics will unfold with increasing intensity in the afternoon and evening—thunderstorms may tag along too!
– **For the Yasawa/Mamanuca group, Labasa, and Savusavu**: Occasional rain and the fun of thunderstorms will make appearances.
– **For Rotuma**: Rain, rain, and more rain with a gusty breeze to keep it exciting!
So, stay tuned to the weather updates, stay hydrated (but not from rainwater), and embrace the wetness that Fiji has to offer! Remember, it’s just water, and life jackets can be quite fashionable!
