A “Stop Work Order” remains in effect for the Great Han Residential Development located on Princess Road. This situation has been brought to attention by the Department of Environment.
On September 5, 2024, the Department was informed of the Suva City Council’s decision to uplift the stop work order for the development. In response, the Department of Environment initiated an investigation and convened meetings with relevant parties to ascertain whether the council’s decision aligned with the Department’s policies.
It was determined that Great Han had not adhered to the conditions set forth by the Suva City Council’s uplifting decision, which specified that the development could only proceed if the requirements established by the Department of Environment were fulfilled, aligned with previous decline decisions.
Consequently, the Department followed proper procedures and reissued a stop work order on September 24, citing Section 43 of the Environment Management Act 2005.
