Sydney-based national goalkeeper Jerome Narayan has been excluded from the Bula Boys squad participating in the upcoming MSG Presidents Cup in Honiara, Solomon Islands. Narayan will be replaced by Joela Biuvanua from Nadi. In addition to Biuvanua, other goalkeepers in the 23-member roster include veteran Simione Tamanisau and Akuila Mateisuva.
Narayan had previously played in all of Fiji’s World Cup qualifier group matches, demonstrating his skills on the field. Several overseas-based key players, including Captain Roy Krishna, Scott Wara, and Leroy Jennings, are part of the squad. However, the 2024 Footballer of the Year, Ratu Tevita Waranaivalu, will not participate in the tournament as he is taking time off to recover from injuries.
The absence of experienced players opens the door for younger talent such as Ba’s Samuela Navoce, Sailasa Ratu, and Penisoni Tirau, alongside Nadi’s Mohammed Ayman and Labasa’s Eparama Moraica, who will gain invaluable international experience.
The MSG Prime Minister’s Cup is set to take place in the Solomon Islands from December 9 to 21.
