Bobby Lee recently shared an amusing behind-the-scenes story from his role in the Netflix comedy “The Wrong Missy.” While he only had one line in the film—”Welcome, Mr. and Mrs. Morris”—delivering it became a surprisingly daunting task. During a discussion on David Spade and Dana Carvey’s podcast, “Fly on the Wall,” Lee recounted the challenges he faced while filming in Hawaii.
According to Lee, the atmosphere on set was pleasant, filled with friends. However, things turned tense when Adam Sandler, a producer of the film, unexpectedly interrupted. He critiqued Lee’s delivery, emphasizing the need for a more natural performance. Lee recalled, “He goes, ‘It’s more natural. Do it more natural.’” After several takes, the tension escalated, and cast members, including Spade and Lauren Lapkus, found themselves in fits of laughter due to the awkwardness of the situation.
Despite the pressure surrounding his minimal dialogue, Lee’s experience led to a fortunate turn of events. After wrapping up his scene, he celebrated at a hotel bar where he met Gene Hong, the showrunner of “Magnum PI.” This encounter blossomed into a fruitful collaboration, with Lee later appearing in 15 episodes and sharing a close friendship with Hong.
Lee’s journey illustrates the unpredictable nature of the entertainment industry, where even the smallest roles can lead to significant opportunities. It highlights the importance of staying resilient in the face of challenges and reminds us that every experience, even the awkward ones, can open doors to new beginnings. This story not only entertains but serves as inspiration for aspiring actors navigating their paths in Hollywood.
