Waisea Nayacalevu, captain of the Flying Fijians for the 2023 Rugby World Cup, has expressed that the team has yet to receive any communication from the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU). This follows allegations of mismanagement within the FRU that emerged more than a week ago. Nayacalevu disclosed that despite efforts to reach out, there has been no response.
During a live podcast with social media blogger Lesi Vanuavou, Nayacalevu mentioned that he had been in contact with Peter Mazey, the Chairman of the Fiji Rugby Union Trust Board. Nayacalevu noted that Mazey initially agreed to a meeting with senior players but became unavailable at the last moment. Since that time, no further efforts have been made by the FRU to communicate with the players.
He emphasized the necessity for dialogue to address the ongoing issues and called for accountability and a thorough review of the current situation. Additionally, he mentioned that emails have been sent to the FRU concerning unpaid salaries for matches played earlier this year against teams such as the Barbarians, Georgia, and the All Blacks.
