Team Fiji concluded the 2024 Paris Olympics with one silver medal, placing 74th in the overall medal standings. The silver was secured by the Fiji men’s rugby sevens team after a 28-7 defeat to the host nation, France.
Most of the athletes participating were under 20 years old and were competing in their first Olympics, expressing pride in representing their country. They are focused on improvement as they aim for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
Additionally, Team Fiji athletes and officials enjoyed a dinner hosted by members of the Fijian community in Paris. The hosts, including Linda Acker, Eric Acker, Atonina Lasagavibau, Fero Lasagavibau, and Joe Rokocoko, provided a warm welcome and presented a traditional sevusevu to the team.
Sale Sorovaki, Team Fiji’s Chef de Mission, expressed gratitude to the hosts for their hospitality and for making the athletes feel comfortable and welcomed. The athletes were excited to taste Fijian cuisine and bond with fellow Fijians in Paris.
Linda Acker shared her emotional experience of hosting the young Olympians, calling it an honor. Joe Rokocoko, a former All Black, remarked that the gathering held significant meaning for them as Fijians, serving as a heartfelt gesture of appreciation for a remarkable group of young athletes who now carry the title of Olympians.
