Team Fiji secured an impressive medal haul, winning two gold, three silver, and one bronze in the junior finals of the Youth and Junior Oceania Boxing Championship held in Tahiti yesterday.
Norman Amran and Meli Buinamasi clinched gold in the 57kg and 60kg categories respectively, both defeating opponents from Tahiti.
Mere Kolitapa, the lone female fighter, earned a silver medal in the 60kg division after a determined effort against her competitor from French Polynesia.
Manasa Toro (70kg) and Tevita Secivo (75kg) also claimed silver medals, losing to boxers from Samoa and Tahiti in their respective finals.
Head coach Cam Todd expressed his satisfaction with the performances of the young and relatively inexperienced team in the ring.
Today, five more Fijian boxers will compete in the finals of the youth category.
