Political parties that are centered around individuals tend to struggle for longevity, according to Professor Biman Prasad, the leader of the National Federation Party (NFP). Speaking during the NFP Working Committee meeting in Ba, he emphasized the importance of a robust foundation built on multiracialism and collaboration among diverse groups.

Professor Prasad praised the commitment and dedication of party members past and present, stating, “Without your support and time, there is no party.” He drew attention to the fragility of parties that rely heavily on the influence of a single individual, remarking, “We have seen parties disintegrate that are built around individuals. Those parties don’t survive.”

He called upon the branch leaders to prepare for the upcoming general elections, emphasizing the need for collective effort to ensure the party thrives for future generations. In addressing the NFP members and the broader community, he expressed concerns about political rivals attempting to sow division among factions. “The future of this country, its stability, and prosperity depend on our ability as leaders to work together,” he asserted.

Additionally, Professor Prasad highlighted that this is the first time in Fijian history that a government has transitioned from one party to another and successfully maintained governance for over a year. He acknowledged the NFP’s achievements in project delivery during their tenure in government, now spanning more than two and a half years.

This gathering reaffirms the NFP’s commitment to unity and democracy as it prepares for the elections. The emphasis on collaboration and multiracialism indicates a hopeful vision for Fiji, as the party seeks to pull together various communities rather than allow divides to deepen.

In light of past political challenges, the NFP’s resilience could inspire a brighter future for governance in Fiji, as emphasized by both party leadership and its supporters. Encouraging collective responsibility reinforces a shared hope for continued progress and stability in the region.
