The Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs has made a proactive request for enhanced funding for the upcoming 2025-2026 National Budget, in light of the burgeoning demand and evident success of its community grants program. This announcement was made by Minister Charan Jeath Singh during a recent visit to Labasa, where he expressed optimism that the government will support the ministry’s initiatives aimed at reaching a broader segment of communities in the next financial year.
Mr. Singh took the opportunity to detail various projects supported by the ministry through grants, citing a total of 11 diverse categories of projects that reflect the pressing needs of communities across Fiji. The 2025 project list includes:

– 48 Renovation projects
– 2 Retaining Wall projects

Minister Singh emphasized that these initiatives aim to alleviate hardships at the grassroots level and bolster social cohesion within various communities, reinforcing the ministry’s core objectives. He highlighted the thorough evaluation process that each grant application undergoes, ensuring that only those proposals that meet specified criteria receive funding.
The ministry’s commitment to delivering substantial support to community organizations has been echoed in previous initiatives, which have successfully enhanced inclusivity and cultural awareness among Fiji’s diverse populations. In past rounds, significant investments have been made—such as the recent disbursement of $1.5 million which marks a historic revival of support for community-based organizations after a prolonged 14-year hiatus.
As these initiatives are rolled out, they are expected to create a positive ripple effect across communities, strengthening social ties and facilitating an environment where individuals can thrive collectively. The focus on unity and inclusion represents a hopeful pathway for Fiji’s future, where every citizen has an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to their communities.
