This initiative, part of Google’s Pacific Connect Initiative, was welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Manoa Kamikamica, who emphasized the project’s role in enhancing international connectivity by linking Fiji directly to major regions such as the United States, Australia, Japan, and South America.

Mr. Kamikamica described the arrival of the subsea cable as a pivotal moment that solidifies Fiji’s standing as a regional digital hub in the Pacific. He expressed optimism that this upgrade in infrastructure will not only bolster Fiji’s digital capabilities but also open new economic opportunities, reinforcing the trust and confidence that global partners have in the nation.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the government’s dedication to improving digital connectivity and economic growth, indicating that the Bulikula project is a testament to that commitment. He also acknowledged the contributions of various partners involved in the project, including the land-holding unit in Natadola and other stakeholders.

Moreover, the Bulikula branch in Natadola adds to the recent arrivals of two segments from the Bulikula and Tabua cables that had previously landed at the Fiji International Telecommunication Limited’s facility in Vatuwaqa, Suva.
