A total of $92,310 was raised for cancer patients last year through various tea fundraiser events organized by different groups and lead sponsors. This was revealed during the launch of the 2025 Bushell’s Fiji’s Biggest Morning Tea (BFBMT) at the Motibhai Group head office in Suva.

Abraham Gomes, the marketing manager at Motibhai, encouraged local businesses and organizations to host morning tea events from May to June to actively participate in the fight against cancer. The Fiji Cancer Society’s CEO, Belinda Chan, noted that 78 new cancer cases were reported in the Central Division and 23 in the Northern Division this year, underlining the urgency of enhancing cancer awareness and advocacy.

Gomes highlighted the issue, mentioning that non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are responsible for 80 percent of deaths in Fiji, with cancer being the third largest cause. “Many families in Fiji are affected by cancer either directly or indirectly,” Chan remarked, urging the community to contribute, whether by donating $40 or $40,000, to support cancer patients and their families.

This article resonates with prior coverage of BFBMT, which has grown significantly in its two decades of operation since its inception in 2006, helping to raise crucial funds and awareness. Reflecting the importance of community initiatives, the BFBMT serves as a hopeful and vital campaign in the fight against cancer, showcasing how collective efforts can bring about meaningful change for affected individuals and families in Fiji.
