The Boston Basketball Club, one of Fiji’s oldest basketball teams founded in the 1980s, is dedicated to preserving the legacy of its former players while emphasizing player development. Located in Raiwaqa, the club has a long-standing tradition of nurturing talent, contributing numerous representatives to Fiji in both basketball and rugby.
Coach Jordan Dokonivalu expressed that the club focuses on realizing players’ ambitions through a structured development pathway. New members start their journey with the Mighty Sharks team for primary school students, then progress to the Mighty Mights for secondary students, ultimately aiming to join the senior team.
The club boasts notable alumni, including Pita Gus and Filimoni Seru, both of whom have proudly represented Fiji on the national stage. As the Boston Basketball Club gears up for the Fiji Cup competition set from March 13 to 15 at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva, enthusiasm within the team and the wider community is burgeoning.
This year’s Fiji Cup marks a significant return after a three-year break and will feature 16 teams competing in men’s and women’s divisions. The event not only showcases local talent but also serves as a potential selection ground for future national players. With an entry fee of just $5, the tournament remains affordable, ensuring families can come together to enjoy the games.
