The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) is actively working on repairing essential water infrastructure in Ba, following significant damage from heavy rainfall and flooding caused by Tropical Cyclone Urmil. The restoration efforts focus on the raw water trunk mains that transport water from the Waiwai and Varaciva Dams to the Waiwai Water Treatment Plant.

Teams from WAF are on-site conducting repairs to the damaged pipelines, which is crucial for restoring normal raw water flow to the treatment plant. This restoration is vital for stabilizing operations and improving the water supply for communities and businesses affected in the Ba area.

As part of the repair efforts, damaged sections of the DN300 trunk mains are being replaced with a combination of mPVC and ductile iron flanged joint pipes. This approach is designed to expedite the repair process. WAF anticipates that the majority of these repair works will be completed shortly, with water supply gradually expected to improve as the system stabilizes.

To support residents in the interim, water carting services are being provided in affected areas. WAF has also committed to implementing longer-term infrastructure upgrades aimed at bolstering pipeline systems, particularly near river crossings and other vulnerable areas, to mitigate the risk of future disruptions.

These proactive measures highlight WAF’s dedication to ensuring a reliable water supply for all residents, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing infrastructure resilience in the wake of natural disasters.
