Fijian rugby player Suliano Volivoli is making noteworthy progress in his recovery from an injury that sidelined him from the Vancouver 7s selection. Recently, he took part in the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s, leading a team that featured not only fellow players on the mend but also promising talents from the Drua Academy, all of whom are aiming for a place in the upcoming Hong Kong 7s.

Reflecting on the challenges of his recovery, Volivoli emphasized the emotional hurdles he faced but expressed gratitude for the steadfast support from his family and friends throughout his journey. “Thank you. In terms of my recovery, it was really hard for me; I wasn’t fully fit, and that’s why I got injured. But with the Hong Kong 7s coming up, I have been training hard, giving my all, and working on my mistakes, like tackling,” he shared. His dedication to refining his skills has been a central focus as he readies himself for the competition, particularly with the Hong Kong 7s on the horizon.

Volivoli’s decision to participate in the Nawaka 7s was unexpected but proved to be beneficial in gaining crucial match experience before the tournament. The event also highlighted other impressive performances, including St Gabriel Nakavika narrowly defeating Hydro Bukuya 10-5 and Brothers Rugby achieving a decisive 24-0 victory over Mana Magicians.

This new phase for Volivoli not only showcases his determination to overcome physical challenges but also embodies the spirit of resilience embedded within Fijian rugby. As he and his teammates remain focused on their upcoming goals, there’s a hopeful outlook for success at the Hong Kong 7s. The determination displayed by Volivoli and his fellow players serves as an inspiring reminder of the impact of perseverance and collective support in sports.
