Fijian rugby player Suliano Volivoli is making significant strides in his recovery from an injury that kept him out of the Vancouver 7s selection. Recently, he participated in the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s, leading a team comprised of fellow players healing from injuries and promising Drua Academy talents—all aiming for a spot in the upcoming Hong Kong 7s.

Reflecting on his recovery journey, Volivoli shared the emotional challenges he faced but credited the unwavering support from family and friends for his return to form. “Thank you. In terms of my recovery, it was really hard for me, I wasn’t fully fit; that’s why I got injured. But with this Hong Kong coming up, I have been training hard, giving my all, and working on my mistakes, like tackling,” he stated. His commitment to improving his game has been a significant focus as he gears up for the competition, particularly with the Hong Kong 7s on the horizon.

His participation in the Nawaka 7s was an unexpected decision but proved to be beneficial as he sought to gain essential game time in preparation for the upcoming tournament. Alongside Volivoli, results from the event showed notable performances, such as St Gabriel Nakavika edging Hydro Bukuya 10-5 and Brothers Rugby achieving a 24-0 victory over Mana Magicians.

This new chapter for Volivoli not only highlights perseverance in overcoming physical setbacks but also reflects the broader spirit of resilience within Fijian rugby. With dedicated efforts and positive team dynamics, there is a promising outlook for Volivoli and his teammates as they work towards success in the Hong Kong 7s. The determination displayed by Volivoli and his colleagues can inspire many, showcasing the power of dedication and support in sports.
