Joji Nasova, the 2024/25 HSBC SVNS Series top try scorer, has signed a two-year contract with the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua for the upcoming Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season. The club made the announcement yesterday, expressing excitement over Nasova’s addition to the team.
Drua head coach Glen Jackson shared his optimism, stating, “We are eager to see Jioji transform his skills into the 15s game.” He acknowledged Nasova as a household name in Fiji Rugby and thanked Osea Kolinisau for the strong partnership between the Drua and the Fiji 7s program. Jackson looks forward to seeing Nasova’s try-scoring talent in the new competition.
The 24-year-old Nasova gained recognition for his impressive speed and powerful running during his time with the Fiji Airways Fiji men’s rugby sevens team. He played a crucial role in the team’s performance at the recent Paris Olympic Games, where they won a silver medal, and he was selected to be part of the 2025 HSBC SVNS Men’s Dream Team after finishing the season as the top try scorer with 26 tries.
In his statement regarding the signing, Nasova expressed his excitement about joining the Drua and his aspirations for the upcoming season: “I hope next season will be a good one.” Hailing from Toge in Ba, Nasova’s journey from playing local tournaments with the Dominion Brothers to now signing with a Super Rugby team showcases his rapid rise in the sport.
This signing marks a significant step not only in Nasova’s career but also signifies a trend of former sevens players successfully transitioning to the 15s game in Super Rugby. Jackson highlighted how such transitions have previously paid off, notably with players like Ponipate Loganimasi.
As the upcoming season approaches, there’s a hopeful sense of anticipation surrounding Nasova’s potential impact on the team and Fijian rugby’s growth on the international stage. His story is a testament to the dedication and hard work that can lead to fulfilling dreams and serving as an inspiration for budding athletes.
