Fijian Paralympian Irene Mar has finished her notable campaign at the 2024 Summer Paris Paralympics with a world ranking of 7th. Mar’s journey came to an end in the quarterfinals of the Women’s K44-57kg category after a challenging match against Turkey’s world number 2, Gamze Gurdal.

The 19-year-old athlete garnered attention earlier in the tournament by pulling off a significant upset in the round of 16, where she defeated Ukraine’s world number 7, Yuliya Lypetska, securing her place in the quarterfinals.

In her bid for a bronze medal, Mar faced another formidable opponent, world number 3 Kamilya Dosmalova from Kazakhstan. Despite her strong performance, Mar was ultimately defeated with a score of 12-6.
