Mark Evans, the chief executive officer of Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, has shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby season, calling it the most exciting schedule they have had in the past four years. The Drua will host seven notable rugby teams, kicking off their season with a match against the Brumbies on their home ground, marking the first time the Brumbies will compete in Fiji.
Evans pointed out the significance of the home games, particularly since this matchup with the Brumbies represents a unique opportunity. He also mentioned that the reigning champions, the Blues, along with the consistently formidable Crusaders, will be visiting Suva to face the Drua. Additionally, he noted the anticipated game against the Chiefs, while highlighting that the Highlanders have yet to travel to Fiji.
Evans expressed a desire for a home game split of 4-3 between Suva and Lautoka, a balance that proved challenging in the previous season due to stadium renovations. “I do not know what we have done to upset the Highlanders, but they never seem to come,” he remarked, noting the regular participation of Australian teams.
He reiterated the importance of having a balanced home game schedule, emphasizing that last year’s arrangement of 2-5 was not beneficial from a commercial standpoint due to various stadium upgrade issues. Evans also recalled the success of a night game from last season, which was completely sold out and included a doubleheader, expressing hope for a similar turnout for the upcoming night game against the Blues.
Overall, he believes the forthcoming season’s lineup is the most attractive in recent years and is encouraging fans to come out and support their team by attending the matches.
