Women from the Korobua Women’s Group in Navakuru Village, located in the Wairiki region of Cakaudrove, Vanua Levu, are receiving recognition for their dedication to advancing food security. Formed with a vision of supporting their families through agriculture, the group focuses on enhancing household food security.

In their proactive approach, the women not only grow crops for personal consumption but have also begun to add value to their produce, occasionally supplying fresh goods to the Labasa Market. This initiative not only boosts their local economy but brings visibility to their efforts.

To further their mission, the Korobua Women’s Group collaborates closely with the Ministry of Agriculture’s Planning Division, which has aided them in identifying sustainable farming practices tailored to their specific land and environmental conditions. Their cultivation strategy incorporates climate-smart agriculture techniques, helping to secure long-term productivity and adaptability in the face of changing climate conditions.

Minister Tomasi Tunabuna has praised the group for their commitment to sustainable farming practices. He highlighted that their work exemplifies how women can significantly contribute to food security and income generation while promoting responsible land stewardship for future generations. This positive impact not only strengthens families but also fosters resilience within the community as a whole.
