Weather Update

Hello, Fiji! It seems like the weather has decided to throw on a moody outfit tonight, with a slow-moving trough of low pressure lingering over the northern parts of the islands. Think of it as the clouds’ way of saying, “I’m here for a while!”

Tonight, brace yourselves for a cocktail of cloudy periods and showers. Some of you lucky folks on Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and the nearby smaller islands may experience isolated heavy falls and the occasional dramatic thunderstorm—perfect for a home movie night! Over eastern Viti Levu (looking at you, Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Naitasiri-Tailevu-Ra), Lau, and the Lomaiviti groups, the weather gods are serving up a similar menu. The rest of the nation should enjoy fine weather, peppered with some afternoon or evening showers.

But hold on, there’s a heads-up for those living in low-lying areas: persistent heavy falls could lead to some uninvited guests—flash floods. So, if you see water where it shouldn’t be, you might want to start practicing your canoeing skills!

As for the winds? Expect moderate to fresh easterlies, which might just be strong enough to take your hat off during those heavy showers and thunderstorms! And if you’re headed to the sea, make sure to check for moderate to rough conditions; no surfing in the teacup of the ocean, please!

Looking ahead to Wednesday: Cloudy skies will continue to hang out over eastern Viti Levu, as well as Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Cakaudrove, Southern Bua, and Yasawa. The rest of you can expect similar fine weather but may encounter a late-day shower or thunderstorm.
