Weather Alert: A Rollercoaster of Showers
Issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 9:07 PM, Wednesday, February 4, 2026
Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! The severe thunderstorm warning we previously had is now as obsolete as your uncle’s dance moves at family gatherings for the northern half of Viti Levu and the eastern half of Vanua Levu. But don’t put that umbrella away just yet; we still have a heavy rain alert ready to take center stage for Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and nearby smaller islands, as well as the central and northern Lau group.
What’s brewing, you ask? A low-pressure trough hovers like an unwanted party guest over the southern and eastern regions, while another one is inching closer from the northeast. It’s expected to drift through the group starting tonight and stick around till later Saturday—like that friend who overstays their welcome.
Forecast until midnight for the Fiji group: Expect occasional showers with a sprinkle of thunder and maybe a few heavy falls over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and their neighboring islands. These will crank up a notch to frequent showers and the occasional thunderstorms later tonight—because why not add a bit of excitement to the rainy season?
Over Sigatoka-Korolevu, Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nasinu, Yasawa, and Mamanuca group, expect some moody weather with showers and thunderstorms kicking things up a gear from tonight. Elsewhere, the skies will be mostly fine with just a side of afternoon or evening showers (thanks, weather gods).
A friendly reminder that afternoon and evening thunderstorms may lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas, so if you see puddles forming that look suspiciously like swimming pools, you might want to reconsider your leisurely stroll.
Now, let’s check the weather highs and lows:
For Navua / Suva / Nausori: You have some showers with the occasional rumble of thunder. Min: 24, Max: 33. Look out for heavier rain tomorrow!
For Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Showers and thunderstorms will increase later tonight. Min: 24, Max: 33. Buckle up, it’s about to get wild!
For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Mainly fine but keep an eye out for evening showers. Min: 24, Max: 34. Tomorrow may be a little soggier.
For Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Same song, second verse – it’s all about showers and thunderstorms tonight. Min: 24, Max: 34. Exciting stuff!
And just when you thought it was calming down, Rotuma will be on the heavy rain watch. Min: 24, Max: 31. Beware, Rotuma, the rain has its sights set on you!
So there you have it! Whether you’re enjoying the rain from the comfort of your home or diving into puddles like a kid, one thing’s for sure: this weather is going to keep us on our toes! Keep that umbrella close and don’t forget to dance like no one is watching—even if the weather isn’t cooperating!
