The Construction Energy and Timber Workers Union of Fiji (CETWUF) has reached a significant milestone by signing an agreement with Aspen Medical, addressing 13 items on the union’s Log of Claims.

CETWUF National Secretary, John Paul, announced that they are working diligently to resolve the remaining six items by the end of February. Key issues under discussion include the wage structure, meal allowances, public holiday pay, and loyalty payments.

John Paul expressed gratitude to the Arbitration Court for referring the issues to the Fiji Mediation Centre and acknowledged the solidarity of CETWUF members at the two hospitals in their pursuit of a Collective Agreement. He emphasized that the agreement ensures that members’ terms and conditions of employment are safeguarded.

In the upcoming weeks, CETWUF and Aspen Medical will reconvene to finalize the remaining aspects of the agreement, with the mediator granting both parties until February 26 to engage in constructive discussions. This collaborative effort exemplifies the commitment to improving working conditions for healthcare workers in Fiji.

Overall, this development is a hopeful sign for labor relations in the region, as it highlights the importance of dialogue and negotiation in addressing workers’ rights and ensuring fair employment standards.
