The hospitality sector in Fiji has seen a remarkable resurgence, with room occupancy rates averaging 62.5 percent from 2020 to 2025, indicating not only recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic but significant growth. At the recent ANZ Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards (FETA) held in Nadi, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka emphasized the vital role of tourism in the nation’s economy.

Despite ongoing global uncertainties and changing travel behaviors, Rabuka praised the tourism industry’s adaptability and resilience. He noted that by embracing Fiji’s unique cultural heritage and natural beauty, the country has effectively turned challenges into opportunities, reinforcing tourism as a fundamental component of economic stability.

According to the September 2025 Quarterly Report, Fiji generated approximately $918.4 million in tourism earnings from holiday arrivals. This represents a 23.4 percent increase compared to June 2025, showcasing unprecedented growth driven by global demand for authentic Fijian experiences.

“The figures we are seeing today represent more than just positive growth; they reflect renewed confidence in Fiji as a premier destination in the South Pacific,” Rabuka stated. He highlighted the international travelers’ trust in the quality, safety, and consistency of Fiji’s tourism offerings.

The FETA event was a momentous occasion to honor the significant contributions of various stakeholders in the tourism sector. Prime Minister Rabuka acknowledged the roles played by airport personnel, tour operators, hotel managers, transport providers, restaurateurs, marketers, and policymakers in creating memorable visitor experiences. He also recognized the essential partnerships that help foster the growth and sustainability of the industry, stressing that the investment and collaboration from sponsors are crucial to ensuring that the benefits of tourism are shared throughout the community.

Overall, these developments signal a hopeful outlook for Fiji’s tourism industry, reinforcing its importance in the broader economic picture and showcasing the nation’s ability to thrive amidst challenges.
