Fiji has been named host of the 2027 Green World Awards after a Fiji-based sustainability initiative won the Green Organisation’s highest honour at an awards ceremony in Wales this month.

The Gaia (Earth) project, led by Blue Phoenix Group (Fiji) — a company established by the founders of a multi award‑winning New Zealand education group — was presented with the 2026 Green World “Champion of Champions” at Cardiff Castle. Roger Wolens, founder and CEO of the Green Organisation, said the accolade recognised Blue Phoenix’s environmental leadership from more than 500 entries to the long‑running awards programme. Wolens noted the rarity of “such a sustained level of commitment, investment, and impact over a 16‑year period,” praising the team’s “clear and ambitious vision for the future now underway in Fiji.”

The win comes with a concrete timeline of projects that organisers say helped secure the top prize. Based in Dreketi on Vanua Levu, the Gaia initiative comprises multiple phases: regenerative agriculture and processing facilities aimed at the global nutraceutical market are due to launch in 2026; Fiji’s first internationally accredited Dark Sky Region, positioned to boost astro‑tourism, is targeted for 2028; and a 100 percent solar‑powered, bamboo‑constructed rainforest wellness retreat aimed at the ultra‑luxury regenerative tourism market is planned for 2030.

Project founder Dr Darius Singh welcomed the award as a national achievement. Singh, whose family ties in Fiji stretch back more than a century, said the recognition “demonstrates that small island nations can lead the world in building regenerative, future‑focused economies that can lift trajectories for people, planet, and prosperity.” He framed Gaia’s work as part of a broader shift toward low‑impact, high‑value development that combines conservation with new income streams for rural communities.

The Green World Awards ceremony in April 2027 is expected to draw an international delegation of sustainability leaders, investors, media and policymakers, offering Fiji an opportunity to showcase regenerative development, climate resilience initiatives and sustainable tourism products. Organisers and Blue Phoenix Group said discussions are already underway with key national stakeholders over hosting arrangements, including venue partnerships, national branding and curated site visits for delegates — although no official venue has yet been confirmed.

The announcement gives fresh momentum to Fiji’s push to position itself as a sustainability leader in the Pacific. It follows domestic policy moves such as the Reserve Bank’s green finance taxonomy introduced in late 2025 to channel climate finance and align investment with national climate commitments. Government and private‑sector spokespeople have previously said such frameworks are intended to attract international capital for adaptation and low‑carbon development; hosting a high‑profile environmental awards ceremony could accelerate investor and media interest in on‑the‑ground projects.

Blue Phoenix Group’s immediate next step is the 2026 launch of its nutraceutical processing arm, which project materials say will link regenerative farming practices with value‑added manufacturing for export markets. With the Champion of Champions title and the promise of an international audience in 2027, project backers are now seeking to convert recognition into partnerships, tourism product development and scaled finance to meet the initiative’s multi‑year targets.
