Sitiveni Rokoro has been appointed as the inaugural chief executive officer of Drug-Free Sports Fiji, marking a significant advancement in the country’s commitment to maintaining clean and fair sports at all levels of competition. This newly established independent National Anti-Doping Organisation (NADO) is the first of its kind in Fiji and was created under the Ministry of Youth and Sports as a statutory body responsible for enforcing the Anti-Doping Act 2024.
Drug-Free Sports Fiji is set to collaborate with international partners, including the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and UNESCO, to ensure that Fijian athletes can compete on a global stage with integrity and accountability. The organization plans to implement comprehensive anti-doping testing and educational programs that will extend from elite sports down to the grassroots level in schools.
In his role as CEO, Rokoro will spearhead the organization’s strategic plan for 2027-2030, which will prioritize transparency, education, and strict enforcement of anti-doping regulations. His leadership is regarded as crucial in advancing Fiji’s sports integrity framework and nurturing a culture of clean competition across the nation.
Jone Koroitamana, the Manager of Sports, emphasized the importance of this development, highlighting the strong governmental backing behind the initiative. He stated, “We are taking a major leap towards safeguarding the integrity of sports in Fiji. This will benefit athletes, sports organizations, and the community as a whole.”
Kamlesh Krishna, president of Drug-Free Sports Fiji, commended Rokoro’s appointment and shared the organization’s vision. He remarked, “This is a proud moment for Fiji. The trust placed in Drug-Free Sports Fiji and Mr. Rokoro’s leadership will ensure that our sporting future is built on fairness, transparency, and respect for the rules.”
Rokoro, who previously served as the CEO of Cricket Fiji, will take on this new role full-time, officially starting on March 16. His transition into this position reflects a historic milestone in Fiji’s sports sector, paving the way for enhanced enforcement of anti-doping measures and a brighter future for athletes and sports enthusiasts in the country.
