Fiji is making significant strides in enhancing its presence in the global aviation sector by participating in the ongoing Changi Aviation Summit in Singapore. The summit commenced on February 1 and runs through February 3, organized by Singapore’s Ministry of Transport. Representing Fiji at this crucial event is Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka.

The summit has attracted over 400 participants, including aviation ministers, directors-general, chief executives, and senior leaders from across the global aviation landscape. Notably, Pacific Island nations are well represented, showcasing the region’s commitment to advancing aviation connectivity.

During the summit, Gavoka engaged with aviation ministers from Pacific Small Island States and had discussions with Toshiyuki Onuma, the President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council. Their conversations centered on enhancing regional air connectivity, addressing challenges facing Pacific aviation, and preparing for the upcoming 4th Regional Aviation Ministers Meeting.

Furthermore, Gavoka took part in a ministerial panel discussion focused on global aviation growth. He underscored Fiji’s strategy to position aviation as a pivotal driver of national development, emphasizing the critical roles of reliable regional access, operational resilience, and environmental sustainability in the aviation sector.

The Minister also highlighted the importance of ongoing technical assistance for the development of Sustainable Aviation Fuel, which is essential not only for Fiji but also for other Pacific Small Island Developing States.

The Changi Aviation Summit serves as an influential platform for dialogue and cooperation among aviation leaders, granting Fiji a valuable opportunity to connect with global partners and promote its aviation priorities. This engagement marks a hopeful step forward for the Pacific region, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable aviation practices and collaborative growth in the industry.
