Fiji Airways men’s rugby sevens player Viwa Naduvalo recently recalled watching the thrilling final between Fiji and Kenya during the 2016 tournament, where current coach Osea Kolinisau was competing as a player. Recently, Naduvalo had the opportunity to play under Kolinisau’s leadership as the Fiji team clinched its second tournament victory of the 2024/2025 HSBC Sevens Series, defeating Kenya 21-12 in Singapore.
Naduvalo expressed his admiration for Kolinisau, stating, “I was once a school boy when I watched our coach win the gold medal. He was one of the players I looked up to; he is a very hardworking person, humble, and very helpful to what I have achieved.” His outstanding performance in the final, where he scored two tries and was named Player of the Final, highlights his growing impact on the team.
Looking ahead, Fiji has been drawn into a challenging Pool B for the upcoming Los Angeles 7s, alongside Spain, Australia, and their rivals, New Zealand. Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team will also be competing in Pool B, facing Australia, France, and the United States.
The Los Angeles 7s will take place at Dignity Health Sports Park on March 3rd and 4th, and the hopes are high for both teams as they aim to build on their recent successes.
