Fiji has achieved a new milestone in tourism with a record-breaking number of visitor arrivals in August, according to provisional figures from the Fiji Bureau of Statistics. The country welcomed 99,737 visitors, marking a 5.2% increase from August 2024 and a slight rise of 0.4% from July 2025. Of these visitors, a significant majority arrived by air, while a smaller group arrived by sea, including a number of seamen and yacht visitors.

Tourism continues to be the primary reason for travel to Fiji, with an impressive 81.2% of the visitors coming for holidays. Visiting friends and relatives accounted for 8.5% of the arrivals, while business travel and other reasons contributed 1.8% and 8.5% respectively. The largest source countries for these visitors were Australia and New Zealand, followed by the United States, Continental Europe, China, Canada, and the UK.

This positive trend aligns with other reported increases in visitor arrivals in past months, emphasizing a strong recovery trajectory for Fiji’s tourism sector post-pandemic. Notably, the numbers indicate that Fiji has managed to exceed its pre-pandemic visitor arrival levels, which is a promising sign for the island nation’s tourism industry.

The resilience of the tourism sector is likely to continue contributing significantly to Fiji’s economy, bringing with it economic growth and cultural exchange. This upward trend in tourism augurs well for Fiji, showcasing its appeal as a premier travel destination with unique offerings. As the local authorities push forward with promotional efforts, the future prospects for Fiji’s tourism industry look bright and promising.
