A fourth suspect has been apprehended in connection with a recent drug raid in Nadi, where over 4.8 kilograms of methamphetamine were seized. This individual, a foreign national, appeared in the Nadi Magistrates Court following an attempt to flee the country after the raid. Police prosecutor Inspector Pramesh Chand stated that charges against the suspect are imminent as the investigation into the drug discovery continues.
The authorities have already arrested three other individuals in relation to this case: a suspended police officer named Apenisa Matadigo, as well as Viliame Nalago and Are Tania. According to earlier reports, this illicit drug consignment was imported via airfreight from a Southeast African nation, highlighting ongoing concerns about international drug trafficking operations.
This latest arrest follows a pattern of intensified operations by the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service, which have led to multiple drug arrests over recent months. In similar incidents, significant quantities of methamphetamine have been seized, demonstrating a heightened commitment to combating drug trafficking and associated crimes in the region. Authorities have noted an upswing in arrests connected to narcotics, emphasizing their priority in dismantling drug networks and promoting public safety.
The recent collaborative efforts by law enforcement showcase progress in tackling the complex issue of drug trafficking. As officials continue to investigate, the ongoing success of these operations offers a glimmer of hope for community safety and the possibility of reducing drug-related offenses in Fiji.
