The Fiji Police Force is enhancing its security presence across the Southern Division as the Coca-Cola Games commenced yesterday. Community policing officers are actively visiting student camps to ensure a safe, incident-free, and drug-free environment for this major athletics meet, which involves thousands of secondary school students from across the nation.

Officers engaged with students, teachers, and parents residing at various schools and hostels, aiming to maintain security and promote responsible behavior throughout the event. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro emphasized, “The aim is simple: to keep the focus on the athletes who have trained for months for their moment to shine. Let’s not allow anything to take away that.”

With heightened excitement surrounding the Games, authorities are urging all participants and supporters to contribute towards a clean and safe atmosphere. Naisoro further stated, “This is their time. Let’s protect it,” underscoring the importance of upholding respect, responsibility, and good sportsmanship on and off the tracks.

The message to attendees is straightforward: report any suspicious activity and avoid any form of misconduct that could undermine the spirit of the Games. As part of a collaborative approach to community safety, the Fiji Police Force is committed to helping create a supportive environment where young athletes can thrive.

This initiative of promoting safety resonates with previous events, such as the Nawaka 7s rugby tournament, where similar strategies were employed to address concerns about drug misuse and to foster a positive sporting atmosphere. The ongoing focus on safety and community responsibility reflects a hopeful outlook for future events, illustrating the collective effort to inspire the youth and encourage healthy choices.

With strong community involvement and rigorous safety measures, the Coca-Cola Games promise to deliver not only exciting athletic performances but also a secure experience for all participants and spectators. Encouraging cooperation among stakeholders can only bolster the community’s commitment to creating memorable and supported events for young athletes.
