Methodist Church of Fiji re-elects Turagavou and Lasawa for another term; deputy post to be finalized; scholarships pledged
The Methodist Church in Fiji has re-elected Reverend Dr Semisi Turagavou as President and Reverend Dr Jolami Lasawa as General Secretary for another term. The deputy general secretary position is expected to be finalized today. For our president and myself, the results mean we will remain in office until the annual conference next year when another election happens, Lasawa said. We thank the members for trusting us with our duties having to lead them over the past year.
Lasawa also noted that they met with Methodist Church leaders from Australia, England and America. They have assured us of scholarships that will be used on our students at the Davuilevu Theological College.
Why this matters
– Leadership continuity provides stability as the church pursues its revival and outreach goals.
– The pledged scholarships could bolster training and development for future church leaders at Davuilevu Theological College.
– International connections reflect growing cooperation with partners abroad, potentially expanding resources and opportunities for congregations across Fiji.
– The arrangement keeps the church’s mission steady as it engages with communities, vanua structures, and government partners in the year ahead.
Summary
Reelected leaders signal ongoing stability and a continued focus on education, outreach, and strategic partnership for the Methodist Church of Fiji and Rotuma.
Positive note
The renewal suggests confidence in the current leadership to guide the church through continued renewal, community service, and broader collaborations that support Fiji’s religious and social landscape.
