The competition for a spot in the Fiji Kula’s final squad is heating up as 33 players convene at the Fiji Football Academy in Vatuwaqa, Suva. This training camp marks the beginning of an intense preparation phase as the national women’s football team gears up for two friendly matches against Papua New Guinea on May 30 and June 2.
These encounters are seen as crucial for the team as they prepare for the OFC Women’s Nations Cup and the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 qualifiers. The extended squad showcases talent from across the country, with Ba particularly well-represented, contributing 13 players, including several who are currently engaged in the OFC Women’s Championship League in Tahiti.
Additionally, the squad includes four overseas-based players: Angeline Rekha from Western Springs, Adi Litia Bakaniceva of Hekari United, Maria Veronika, and Cema Nasau from Eastern Suburbs. With other teams represented—Labasa with seven players, Rewa with eight, and single representatives from Nadi, Lautoka, Suva, and Tailevu Naitasiri—the Kulas are fostering a diverse and skilled roster.
The selected squad features names like Elesi Tabunase, Koleta Likuculacula, and Alisi Qereqeretabua, among others. The emphasis during the 10-day camp leading up to naming the final 22-member team on May 23 will be on teamwork, tactical development, and preparing for the challenges ahead.
This preparation highlights Fiji’s commitment to advancing women’s football, creating a platform for aspiring female athletes to excel. As the team gears up for these pivotal matches, fans are encouraged to rally behind them, fostering a sense of unity and enthusiasm for women’s sports in the region.
The upcoming friendly matches provide an excellent opportunity for players to showcase their skills, further enhancing their chances of making it into the final squad. The journey ahead is filled with potential, and the dedication of both the players and coaching staff presents a hopeful outlook for the Fiji Kulas on the international stage.
