The Government has firmly rejected accusations from Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu, who claimed that the country is facing chaos. Ro Filipe Tuisawau, Deputy Leader of the People’s Alliance Party (PAP), characterized these assertions as “desperate” and misleading.

In a recent statement, Tuisawau affirmed that the Government is operating normally and is committed to upholding all legal and constitutional processes, including those present within the judiciary. He emphasized, “There is no chaos as Hon Seruiratu asserts. The judiciary and courts are operating as they should.”

Tuisawau argued that the Opposition leader’s remarks arose from political uncertainties, suggesting that the People’s First Party would struggle to meet the critical five percent electoral threshold absent influential figures such as former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. He remarked, “He knows that without Bainimarama and Hon Khaiyum, their party will not make the five percent threshold,” pointing out that past electoral successes were significantly reliant on those leaders.

Highlighting the unity and determination of the People’s Alliance Party, Tuisawau stated that they remain focused on delivering essential services aimed at enhancing the livelihoods of citizens. He noted, “The People’s Alliance Party is intact, with many services and deliveries already completed to uplift the lives of our people.”

Furthermore, he criticized the branding and ideology of the People’s First Party, labeling it as confusing and linked to the controversial “Sunset Clause ideology” from the 2006 coup. Tuisawau remarked, “Those who were silent between 2006 and 2022 while people were suppressed are now trying to return under the disguise of saviours.” He reiterated that Government institutions are functioning effectively, dismissing any claims of instability.

This display of confidence from the Government suggests a commitment to maintaining stability and focus on governance, despite criticism from the Opposition. Tuisawau’s statements reflect a determination to continue progress and uphold democratic processes, aiming for a brighter future for the nation.
