Fiji Forecast May 1, 2026: Cloudy with Showers and Isolated Thunderstorms; Localised Heavy Falls and Flood Risk Across Viti Levu, Vanua Levu and Nearby Islands

Stormy weather over tropical beach with dark clouds and swaying palm trees.

Issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre, Nadi, at 3:30pm on Friday 1 May 2026. A trough and moist, southeasterly flow will keep cloudy periods and showers across several eastern and southern parts of the group while most other areas remain mainly fine with only isolated afternoon or evening showers. Moderate to fresh southeast winds are expected, gusty at times, and seas will be rough in many coastal areas. Isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms are possible, particularly over the interior of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

Through to midnight tomorrow, expect cloudy periods with some showers over Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, Cakaudrove, southern Bua, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Elsewhere conditions will be generally fine apart from the chance of an isolated afternoon or evening shower. Winds are from the southeast at moderate to fresh strength and gusty at times; with rough seas, mariners and coastal users should be prepared for choppier conditions.

The outlook for Sunday shows occasional showers continuing across the same eastern and southern districts, while other areas will see partly cloudy skies with the possibility of afternoon or evening showers. There is a continued risk of isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu; localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding in flood‑prone locations, so residents in low‑lying or flood‑susceptible areas should stay alert to rapidly changing conditions.

Labasa — fine apart from afternoon or evening showers; tomorrow min 23°C, max 33°C; Sunday similar with possible thunderstorms, min 22°C, max 33°C. Rotuma remains under the influence of a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and showers. Occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected with moderate to fresh southeasterly winds and moderate to rough seas. Temperatures there are forecast around a minimum of 24°C and a maximum of 31°C, with the same general conditions expected into Sunday.
