FOOD Processors Fiji Ltd has announced a significant $1.2 million upgrade to its facility in Suva, aimed at tripling its production capacity from two tonnes to six tonnes. Chairman Raj Sharma emphasized that this investment will create more job opportunities and contribute to the growth of the local agricultural sector.

Sharma reported that the company’s annual agricultural output has surged from 500 tonnes to an impressive 1500 tonnes, resulting in a considerable increase in employment opportunities and a threefold rise in agricultural procurement. This growth has positively impacted many farmers and improved living conditions in rural areas.

During the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka commended FPFL for its contributions to Fiji’s subsistence economy. He underscored the necessity for ongoing training and skill enhancement among employees to effectively adapt to technological advancements and evolving industry standards.

CEO Raneel Mudaliar discussed the rationale behind the facility upgrade, highlighting that it was driven by needs related to certification, quality assurance, and fulfilling client demands. The upgrade process was cautiously executed to ensure that production and sales remained unaffected. Remarkably, the entire project was completed within three months, allowing FPFL to quickly resume its full production capabilities.

This expansion reflects a larger trend in Fiji’s agricultural industry, where there is a growing commitment to enhancing local production capacities and fostering economic self-sufficiency. Similar initiatives, such as Delaivuna Farm Fresh’s new feed mill, also demonstrate a focus on local job creation and agricultural self-reliance.

These advancements present a promising outlook for Fiji’s agricultural sector, highlighting a movement towards greater sustainability and economic resilience. By bolstering production capacities, FPFL’s efforts could serve as an inspirational model for other sectors aiming to boost local industries and support community welfare.
