Minister of Finance Esrom Immanuel announced today that Cecil Browne has been reappointed as Chair of the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC). This development comes alongside the appointment of Joel Abraham, who took over as Chief Executive on Christmas Eve.

When questioned about Abraham’s departure, Minister Immanuel clarified that Abraham was not removed but is in the process of resigning. He emphasized that Abraham should concentrate on other priority areas of the economy instead of FCCC’s internal governance and processes.

Sources indicate that Abraham had recently expressed interest in examining the recent electricity tariff increase shortly after his appointment. Moving forward, Minister Immanuel indicated that the Commerce Ministry team will oversee matters concerning processes and governance at the FCCC.

Efforts are currently underway to gather responses from both Joel Abraham and line Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau. This transitional period at the FCCC could signal a shift in focus towards more pressing economic issues, ultimately fostering a more effective regulatory environment.
