The Ministry of Employment in Fiji has issued a firm warning to illegal education recruiting agencies, as Minister Agni Deo Singh announced strong support for enforcement actions against those violating the law. Singh emphasized the importance of working alongside the Higher Education Commission to regulate and legalize education recruiting agencies that are currently operating unlawfully.
He pointed out that agencies that are unregistered or are conducting business while on visitor visas should face immediate stop orders and legal consequences. This urgent call to action comes in light of serious concerns regarding student welfare, with reports of agencies misleading students and exploiting parents by promising overseas study opportunities in exchange for substantial fees.
Additionally, Higher Education Commission Chair Steve Chand has revealed that investigations have identified gaps in the system that have inadvertently allowed certain recruiting agencies to operate outside the law. The Commission is now actively working to close these loopholes and strengthen enforcement to combat illegal recruitment practices.
Authorities are urging parents and students to take proactive steps to verify the registration status of any education agencies before utilizing their services. As enforcement efforts ramp up, the aim is to safeguard the interests of students and families, while also preserving the integrity of Fiji’s educational framework. This collaborative approach between various governmental bodies reflects a commitment to ensuring a safer and more transparent educational environment for all.
