A flood warning has been issued for low-lying and flood-prone areas adjacent to and downstream of the Nakauvadra River in Rakiraki Town, Naseyani along the Yaqara River, and at Tavua, particularly near the Nasivi and Tavua Town Bridge. Additionally, a flood alert remains active for the Ba River flood plains and the upper Tavua reach.

The Fiji Meteorological Service reports that Tropical Cyclone Urmil, currently categorized as a Category 2 system, is located to the west-southwest of Kadavu, tracking southeastward. The system is producing active rainbands and strong northwesterly winds that are impacting several regions of the Fiji group.

Weather authorities have highlighted that these adverse conditions are raising the risk of river flooding, particularly in areas where the ground has already been saturated due to ongoing rainfall. In Lautoka, the high tide is expected at 4:48 PM, while in Suva, it will occur at 4:53 PM.

Officials warn that the combination of continuous heavy rain, rising river levels, and elevated tide conditions could exacerbate flooding in the affected regions. Real-time data indicates that water levels in Rakiraki, Tavua, and Ba are steadily exceeding alert and warning thresholds.

Residents in these at-risk communities and downstream areas are advised to stay alert, avoid crossing rivers and flooded roads, and adhere to all official weather updates and advisories as the situation evolves.

This urgent alert serves as a reminder of the importance of heeding weather warnings and taking precautions during severe weather events, ensuring the safety of all residents in affected areas.
