Weather Update

Issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 10:45am, February 6, 2026

Buckle up, folks, because a HEAVY RAIN ALERT is still in full swing for the entire Fiji group! Yes, it seems like Mother Nature is throwing a bit of a tantrum right now. For the latest drama in the weather saga, check out https://www.met.gov.fj/alerts/.

What’s going on? Well, there’s a rather sulky trough of low pressure lolling about over Fiji, and it’s decided to slow dance all the way southwards. Expect this moody cloud and rain party to stick around until Saturday. And after that? Get ready for some breezy east to northeast winds sweeping through like they own the place.

Forecast until midnight tomorrow includes occasional rain and a few thunderstorm performances, with some isolated heavy downpours trying to steal the spotlight over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and several smaller islands. Other headliners include the northern and interior parts of Viti Levu, Yasawa, Mamanuca, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups. The south will eventually join the rain fest, but it looks like the northern folks will get a break later today—lucky them!

But just a heads-up: those persistent heavy rains could lead to flash floods in low-lying areas, so keep your eyes peeled and your umbrellas handy!

Wind-wise, expect moderate north to southeast breezes turning predominantly northerly later today. As for the sea? Moderate, with a rough twist near thunderstorms and heavy rain—maybe don’t take your boat sailing just yet.

Looking ahead to Sunday: expect some cloudy real estate with a few showers popping up in the eastern and interior areas. The rest of the islands? You might be fine, aside from a few afternoon or evening showers and the occasional thunderstorm crashing the party. Hang onto your hats; localised heavy falls could also lead to more flash flooding!.

Now, let’s break things down by area:
