Six individuals are currently in police custody as they await drug analysis following their alleged possession of marijuana on Christmas Day. The arrests come as the Fiji Police Force ramps up its efforts to clamp down on drug-related activities during the festive season.
In the Southern Division, a 38-year-old unemployed man was detained in Nabua, Suva, after officers discovered seven sachets of dried leaves, suspected to be marijuana, wrapped in aluminum foil. Additionally, a 24-year-old unemployed man was apprehended in Qauia, Lami, with a branch of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.
A 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, was also arrested for possessing 20 sachets of dried leaves, similarly suspected to be marijuana and wrapped in aluminum foil. Meanwhile, two men from Vusuya, Kuku, near Nausori Town, were captured in Valelevu, Nasinu, after allegedly being found with two ziplock plastic bags containing a crystal-like substance thought to be methamphetamine.
In the Western Division, a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka, Lautoka, was arrested for allegedly holding five sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana, neatly wrapped in aluminum foil.
As the police continue their drug enforcement initiatives, Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu emphasized the importance of vigilance during this period, particularly in busy picnic spots and communities. The ongoing efforts by police underline a commitment to maintaining public safety, especially during a time when social gatherings are prevalent.
